A Time to Heal

Recently arrived from a tobacco farm, Ella Lofton struggles to fit in with Washington DC’s black elite of which her distant family belongs. She dreams of becoming a lawyer for the NAACP to fight the injustice of lynching. Her family originally objects to her plans but eventually agrees to support her if she marries someone from their social set.

Will Bradford can never measure up to his brother Parker, a paragon of their social circle. Will, a pariah, is nothing but trouble. When he sees Ella having trouble fitting in, he offers to help her find an eligible man acceptable to her family. Instead he falls in love with Ella. Can Will convince Ella to become more than friends?

“ Live first so you have something to write about! And persevere. It takes talent. Which you can develop and train, but perseverance will be the most important quality to get your work published.”

— Cristian Claver
